Frequently-Asked Questions
for GTCO Brand Products
How can I get
drivers for my digitizer?
Simply download the drivers from the GTCO Calcomp website or click
here: DRIVERS
What is the maximum
length for a USB cable?
The maximum length for a USB cable
is 5 meters (197 inches). The power transferred through a USB cable
that is greater than 5 meters in length will start to decrease, and
the device may not function properly.
ROLL-UP III’s
What is the
difference between a Roll-Up II and Roll-Up III?
The Roll-Up III has the built-in
USB port. The Native USB connectivity allows power to be supplied
via the USB port. Installation is quick and easy—Wintab™
applications use the Roll-Up III with our TabletWorks drivers. For
non Wintab™ applications, the Roll-Up III will be restricted to
serial connection setup through SuperSet Menu or Custom
Configuration Menu.
Will the Roll-Up
III work with Windows 98/NT/W2K/XP?
Yes. You may also need one of our
TabletWorks drivers.
Does the Roll-Up
III support cordless transducers?
No, the Roll-Up III can only be
used with the corded type transducers.
My Roll-Up III is
emitting a series of strange beeps. What should I do?
Make sure your stylus/cursor is
connected tightly. Reset the digitizer. If these actions do not
correct the problem, check the Help File for a chart of diagnostic
tones and what they mean or call GTCO CalComp Technical Support.
I moved my Roll-Up
III and now it doesn't work. What should I do?
Check the connections. Be sure that
the I/O cable (the cable running from the computer serial port to
the digitizer or the USB cable between digitizer and computer) is
connected on both ends. If all cables appear to be properly
attached, reset your digitizer using the appropriate Super Set code
and listen for the tones. If you hear anything other than the four
Success tones, consult the Help Files for assistance. Also, be sure
you have selected the correct serial communications port in your
software application
I have a separate
power supply for my Roll-Up III---do I really need to use it?
Yes. If the Roll-Up III connects
via serial port, the external power supply is needed to ensure the
digitizer has a constant power source. This is especially true if
you are using the digitizer with a laptop computer. The power supply
is not needed if the Roll-Up III connects via USB port.
Why do I get dead
spots and areas where the stylus/cursor jumps around my Roll-UP III?
There are a few possibilities:
Pencil Marks. Pencil marks contain graphite. Graphite is a
conductor and will interfere with proper functioning of the
digitizer. Erase any pencil marks from the tablet. If the plans or
paper resting on the tablet have pencil marks, remove the plans and
see if this action corrects the problem. Objects in contact with
the digitizer. Be sure there are no metal objects (such as
staples) on or below the digitizer. A Roll-Up cannot be used
effectively on a metal surface. Be sure there are no electronic
devices (such as a monitor, phone, radio, or even a keyboard) on the
digitizer tablet because these devices can cause interference.
Dirt or film builds up. The digitizer should be clean and
dry. Clean the digitizer with a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water
on a soft cloth. DO NOT apply liquid directly on digitizer surface.
Static electricity. Try to ground yourself before using the
digitizer. If the air is very dry, try using a humidifier. An
anti-static air spray and/or grounding floor mat may also help.
Clothing made of synthetic fabric also creates a lot of static
electricity. If static is a problem, you may want to minimize how
much synthetic material you are wearing. Cuts or slices in the
tablet. Cuts or slices in the tablet may result in dead spots. If
you believe your tablet is damaged in this way, call GTCO CalComp
Technical Support.
Does it matter what
order I plug the stylus/cursor, power supply and I/O cable in?
Yes. For serial connection: First
connect the stylus/cursor and then the separate power supply if you
have one. Next, connect the I/O cable. The digitizer will emit the
four Success tones when you connect the external power supply. There
is no specific order for disconnecting the components. For USB
connection: connect the transducer before the USB cable. There is no
specific order for disconnecting the components
Can I use my
Roll-Up III with the older QuikRuler?
Yes. Connect the QuikRuler the same
way as with the Roll-Up II using Interface Module and interface
cable provided with the QuikRuler, or call the GTCO Sales Department
or your local GTCO Dealer for more information about the QuikRuler
Legacy Kit.
SUPER L TABLETS
My digitizer is
emitting a series of strange beeps. What should I do?
Check the ribbon cable connections
on both ends. Disconnect and then reconnect the ribbon cable to be
sure it is seated well. Then press the reset button on the
controller. If this does not correct the problem, check your User’s
Manual for a chart of diagnostic tones and what they mean or call
GTCO Technical Support.
I moved my
digitizer and now it doesn't work. What should I do?
Recheck the connections. Be sure
that the I/O cable (the cable running from the computer serial port
to the digitizer) is connected on both ends. Be sure that the I/O
cable is connected to the correct port on the digitizer. If you have
a standard RS232-C cable, be sure it is connected to J6 Port B. If
you have a null-modem cable, be sure it is connected to J5 Port A.
If all cables appear to be properly attached, reset your digitizer
and listen for the tones. If you hear anything other than the four
Success tones, consult your User’s Manual for assistance. Also, be
sure you have the correct serial communication port selected in your
software application
Can you replace the
Pen tip?
Yes, to replace the pen tip, grasp
the tip and pull straight out. Insert the new tip and press until it
clicks into place.
What kind of
batteries does the cordless pen use?
The cordless pen uses two 393
silver oxide (hearing aid) batteries. For installation instructions
see the on-line Help Files. The average battery life is 750 to 1,000
hours.
What kind of
batteries does the cordless cursor use?
The cursor requires two AAA
batteries. For installation instructions see the on-line Help Files.
The average battery life for the cursor batteries is 4,000 hours
There is no power
light when the transducer is inside the drawing/active area.
Check the board’s power and be sure
you are getting the normal 4 beeps on start-up. The power light will
be out if the transducer has gone into sleep mode. Press any button
on the transducer to activate it. When the cursor is not in sleep
mode, but out of the active area, the green LED will flash. If the
power light continues to be out and the transducer is cordless and
within the active area, change the batteries.
The pointer on my
screen shakes or jitters.
The tablet may be set too close to
the monitor. Move tablet further away from screen. If you are using
a small format cursor or stylus, the tablet’s frequency setting may
be conflicting with the display. See the on-line Help File for
instructions about changing the frequency.
